Thanks for telling us about the problem. Eliot from his Four Quartets into Urdu quratulain she used her translated version as an epigraph to Aag ka Darya. But I am afraid I enjoyed it because my educational background is in history of art and religions of India.

The only minus point of this book is its ‘difficulty’. Their lives would have been much simpler had they but committed to a person or a course of action, rather than approaching and jyder without ever being able to commit.

Qurratulain Hyder was an influential Indian Urdu novelist and short story writer, an academic, and a journalist. History does not seem to be very important with the local people, who only seem to be occupied with accepting all vagaries of life, all masters, abhorring conflict, content to spend their lives in trying to find the meaning of life. The ‘river of blood’ is used to string the novel together as the heroes change over time.
